Week 60...Running Low on Miles & I LOVE Corn on the Cob

Week 60…July 28, 2014

Well, we’ve had quite the week again.  We’ve spent a lot of the week walking around St Mary's.  It’s the end of the month and we’ve been running low on miles for pretty much the past 10 days.  It sounds like you are never ending busy, you are crazy and anxiously engaged in every cause.  It seems like every email you have a new project that you have started.  Holy cow,  it sounds like Boris had an adventure at work the past few weeks.  People are crazy these days.  I sent him a letter, but he won’t get it until he gets back from the Uintas.

  1. How was your week?  What were the highs & lows?  This week has been pretty good.  We had 3 investigators at church again…S, J & G  came.  That was a definitely a big high for the week.  We found a chunk of new investigators in St. Mary’s while we’ve been walking around our area.  They are all progressing and we’re praying they will keep moving towards baptism.  Crossing my fingers that I will have a few baptisms to report in the near future.  The low has been the darn humidity (luckily I am on the tail end of the summer and next summer I will be back to the nice dry heat.)  Another low has been walking all over, but oh well it is good exercise.  It’s almost a new month and new miles.
  2. It looks like your week was rather hot & humid.  How has the weather been?   Yes, we got rain yesterday.  That is the only day we really got rain.  The beginning of the week was hot and humid but the temps have only been in the 80's.  Evidently that’s nowhere near what it should be, but I will take it.  It would be nice if the humidity was lower, but whatever.  It’s almost fall here and then winter.
  3. I got your letter, you said you were concerned about miles.  How are the miles?    Driving up to Kane all the time takes a lot of miles.  Mostly because we have been a lot busier and all of the people we teach are not really close together.  So because we’re low on miles we have been walking quite a bit this past week.  The upside is we’ve found some people here in St.  Marys that we can start teaching.  Also, plain and simple there were some days that  we just didn’t manage our miles very well.

  4. When is the 150th celebration in Kane?  Are you going?  It is this Saturday.  We are doing something in the parade that they are having.  That’s all that I know right now.
  5. Any service opportunities this week?  No not really, we helped the librarian plant a few bushes on Saturday but that’s about all the service we did this week.
  6. How are things with the members?  Things are going quite well and starting to pick up with them.  We are starting to get quite a bit of member involvement.  They are really starting to see the growth and potential in their branch and are getting excited about it.

  7. Dinner appointments...anything exciting or newsworthy you want to tell?  No, things have been pretty normal.   Hope you’re sitting down for this one…I am reporting that I am finally in LOVE with corn on the cob.  You will be so proud to see me eat it when I get home (modern day mission miracles J)
  8. How are your investigators?
    1.  S, P, G & J?  They are all doing well and  G, P & J came to church yesterday.  They are all slowly progressing, they just need to start living the commandments as we teach them.  We are seeing them again on Thursday.
    2. The  G family?  They are doing well also.  They continue to come to church every week.  They are getting great fellowship from the members of the branch.  I think they are on a good road.
    3.  S&N  Great, she was at church.  There is a slow progression and we are seeing them tonight.
    4.  S & S?  He has been super busy so we have not been able to meet with him lately.  He said to wait until the beginning of August and hopefully things will be back to normal for him again.
    5. Any new leads?  We found a few walking around in St. Marys.   C & A  are some people we met on the porch a few weeks ago.  We had our first lesson on with them on Thursday.  There is good potential there.  They are looking for a church and want to get back to going to church.  We are meeting with them again tonight.  We also met a guy named E and his daughter, S.  There is potential with them also.  So things are looking up for our teaching pool.
  9. Any mission business this week or coming up?  Apparently on August 19th we are having a member of the 2nd quorum of the Seventy come for a mission tour.  We are not all meeting together so they are breaking it up into sections (3 different days for the different areas).  Transfers are again on August 12th.
  10. Are you happy & healthy?  Yes
  11. Can we do anything for you?  I was thinking that a good birthday idea would be some of your famous sugar cookies.  Another idea is some cool ties.  Other than that, Ican't really think of anything.
  12. Any funny or crazy stories?  Ironically, on Thursday (Pioneer Day) we walked pretty much all day.  That morning we went on a trek to find some people and it was a 3 hr round trip.  The bummer was when we got there we found out they had moved.  So instead of singing pioneer children sang as they walked and walked and walked  you can sing missionaries sang as the walked and walked and walked.  There is your humor for the week.

There’s another week for you.  I look forward to all to all of the stuff in the mail that you sent…thanks!!!  Can't believe next week is the beginning of August and then we are almost to single digits after that.  Before we know it, it will be Christmas again.

    Love you,

    Elder Muir
